Who are the persons eligible to be registered to vote in Saint Lucia?
A person shall be qualified to be registered as an elector in an Electoral District only if, on the qualifying date he or she-
- is a person who is –
- a citizen of Saint Lucia; or
- a Commonwealth citizen who has resided continuously in St. Lucia for not Less than seven years immediately preceding the qualifying date;
- has attained the age of 18 years;
- has resided continuously in that electoral district for a period of at least two months preceding the qualifying date.
Who are the persons not eligible to be registered to vote in Saint Lucia?
- A person certified to be insane or otherwise adjusted to be of unsound mind under any enactment in force in Saint Lucia;
- A person undergoing any sentence of imprisonment in Saint Lucia of any other part of the Commonwealth;
- is under sentence of death of imposed on him or her by a court, in any part of the Commonwealth;
- is disqualified for registration as an elector by virtue of any enactment in force in Saint Lucia by reason of his or her having been convicted of any offence relating to elections ; or
- is disqualified therefrom by any other law.
What are the qualifying dates for registration in Saint Lucia?
There are two qualifying dates in each calendar year: 15th February in respect of the first half of the year and 15th July in respect of the second half of the year.
When and where does registration take place?
Electoral Department main office at the Godfrey James Building on #23 High Street in Castries, Electoral Sub in Vieux Fort, at the National Insurance (NIC) building at the corner of Theodore and Hospital Streets in Vieux Fort. At any of Electoral department temporary registration centres.
Who can be deleted from the Register?
A person registered under this Act shall remain registered unless and until his or her name is deleted from the register by or under the authority of the Chief Elections Officer because –
(a) he or she has died;
(b) he or she, being a person otherwise qualified as an elector, has been absent from Saint Lucia for a continuous period of 3 years or more; or
(c) he or she has become disqualified for registration under this Act or of any other enactment.

Nationals

Non Nationals
- Original Birth Certificate
- Letter from the National Insurance Corporation (NIC)
- Original Certificate of Citizenship from the Ministry of Home Affairs
Documents required for Change of Address
- National Identification Card (ID Card)
- Recent utility bills for the last two (2) months as proof of address or
- Letter from the landlord (if bills are not in the applicant’s name)
- In the absence of bill or letter a physical verification of the actual residence will be undertaken by our verification team
Documents required for Change of Name
- National Identification Card (ID Card)
- Original document showing change of name i.e. marriage certificate, birth certificate, affidavit and order from registry.
- Decree absolute certificate (if divorced)
- Letter from National Insurance Corporation
Document required for Renewal of National Identification Card
- National Identification Card (ID Card)
- Original documents if required i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate, decree absolute in the event of any changes
Requirements for replacement Identification Card
- Statutory Declaration Form issued by the Electoral Department must be signed by a Justice of the Peace or a Notary Royal.
- Two (2) passport size photos
- Five dollars ($5.00) postage stamp affixed to the form
Document required for Defaced/Mutilated Identification Card
- Defaced/mutilated Identification Card (ID Card)
- Original documents if required i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate, decree absolute
Requirements for Temporary Identification Letter
- Two passport size photos
- Original documents if required i.e. birth certificate, letter from the institution requesting letter
Where on the National Identification Card (ID card) can I find my ID Card Number?
The ID card number is located to the front of the card, top right-hand corner. This number is also the same as your Social Security (NIC) Number.
Where on the National Identification Card (ID card) can I find my Voter Registration Number?
The voter registration number is located to the back of the ID card beneath Chief Signature, the first six numbers.
Hours of taking the poll?
The taking of poll at each polling station shall be between 6:30 am. and 6:00 pm. of the same day. Once you are in the line before 6:00pm you will be allow to cast your ballot no matter the time.
Who can vote?
A person is entitle to vote as an elector at an election in an electoral district only if on polling day he or she is registered in the register to be used at that election in that electoral district.
Who are the person allowed in the polling station?
- Presiding Officer
- Poll Clerk
- Assistant Poll Clerk
- Not more than two (2) Agents for each Candidate
- Candidates
- Any police officer or constable on duty
- Members of the Electoral Commission
- Chief elections Officer or
- Any elections observer authorised by the Electoral Commission
What documents are required to vote?
An elector can vote using one of the following;-
- A National Identification Card
- Saint Lucia Drivers Licence
- Saint Lucia Passport
- Persons can also be identified by the poll copy of their registration record or the picture list placed at the polling stations
- Any other means of identification that the presiding officer may consider adequate.
How much time do I need to vote?
According to Elections Act Chapter 1.02 #73 (1)
An employer shall, on polling day, allow every elector in his or her employ a reasonable period being not less than two (2) hours or such other period as may be prescribed for voting, and no employer shall make and deduction from the pay or other remuneration of any such elector or impose upon or exact from him or her any penalty by reason of his or her absence during such period.
